hits and misses

My hits this year were mainly the blog posts and poetry. I tend to enjoy writing shorter pieces of writing because it forces you to be brief but also as descriptive as possible. Blogs and poetry are more of a creative outlet than any other kind of writing. I do not know if I like free writing or prompts more. I feel like I will always enjoy creative writing such as poetry or blogs more than anything. Some of my misses included the larger pieces of writing. I often lose focus, detail, and meaning when I write for long pieces of time. I think that if I become a better writer I will struggle less with major writings. For literary analyses and DBQs I seem to find myself in a pickle that will grow smaller over time as I become a better writer.

strengths and weaknesses

I think my strengths as a writer are mainly focused in poetry. I think I am very good at creating rhythm, rhyme, and using the correct sound terms such as euphonies and cacophony. I also am good at rhetorical situation and elements such as audience. This class has helped me grow as a writer and understand how to write with a purpose. My poems and blog posts were always easy because I knew my audience, purpose, and how to make the writing sound. I get a bit less on topic when it comes to longer writings. While I am good at finding purpose and conveying it, when in longer writing I sometimes forget to incorporate purpose or my statement. I need to work on this by making sure I add details and evidence in each section of my work. For my personal narrative I always forget to add in the importance in my story but focused more on my details. This made my work long and made it easy to look in on what was happening but there was no significance in the end.

grace - summer peyton - purple hibiscus

purple hibiscus

Three things I commonly find in Purple Hibiscus is power, obedience, and slow coming freedom. Purple hibiscus shows the perspective of a teenage girl in Nigeria, Kambili, living a very luxurious life but a dark side: her abusive father. She lives her life in fear and strict rules. Though she has a weird connection with her father, a kind of pride of him. This is easily recognized because the book is from Kambili's perspective, as if we're in her head.  Power and obedience is showed through her father. Her father's abuse inspires Kambili to live in fear and live by strict rules. Slowly she shows that she is finding her freedom. This comes in some corrupt ways but is understandable, due to her circumstances. She learns to finally laugh and smile because of an inappropriate crush on a priest. This leads us to question, is her corrupt view of Father Amadie just her acting out because her fathers strict life style?

photoshopped

Photo shop is slowly becoming less popular; mainly because self love is in. Photo-shop became popular when social media and advertising became more popular along with the skinny figure for women. This started around when my mom was in middle school, around 1990's. Since then, companies have lightened the photo-shop load. Companies like Asos and Aerie have stopped photo-shopping women's perfect impurities like stretch marks and tummies. Now men and women are loving themselves more and learning to accept the fact the beauty is in all shapes and sizes. Photo-shop does not make me feel bad about myself at this point. I am confident in how I look with my imperfections; even with seeing ultra skinny girls and totally fake bodies all around the internet. This program of changing bodies to look more attractive makes people feel what they see on magazines is the only beauty there is. This old idea is fading because it leads to women not accepting themselves as the are. I think that yo
