When I read this originally I was really confused and could not make since of the short story. As the class talked about what it meant I started to understand that it was satire. The author was making fun of a subject; when it came clear everything made more since. I still do not understand why Harrison and the ballerina kissed the ceiling. I was also confused on why on what the people had to wear and why. After the class discussion I understood it was a weight for the stronger people.

After going over everything, I wondered if the author wrote this to show what the world would be like if the government made everyone over equal. I don't think the author was making fun of equality but illustrating what would happen if everyone was equal to that level. I also wondered if that's what things would really be like. I think the author was successful at making the readers think even after reading the short story because people are still talking about it days after.

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour is a great book so far. I haven't been reading it for very long but it immediately caught my eye with a baby pink, teal, and black cover. It has a drawing of a girl standing on a bed in the middle of the beach. When I saw the book in the library I remembered briefly reading a summary of the book and wanting to read it during the summer; so when I saw it I checked it out without rereading the summary and jumped right in. This book starts with what is happening in real time. The second chapter is a flash back, and it continues to jump back and forth. The book didn't mention the main character's name until around page twenty, but does mention the name of her roommate and the girl who will be visiting her. She mentions everything in her room and her feelings to where I feel like I'm in her mind sharing her thoughts. yearbook

I tell myself that I do not like yearbook. Though when I find myself running around with a camera in my hand trying to capture people's smiles, I remember why I signed up for the class. Granted, I do not like missing practices or always being busy, but when i take a really good picture or see my picture in a yearbook spread I get the best feeling. This feeling of great reward is worth all of the looks I get and being the odd one out. Yearbook is also pretty hard. The class is really laid back all year but as the end comes we get more and more stressed out. The yearbook crew works over all breaks and the grind actually starts in the summer.
