a & p

After reading the short story, A & P, I was conflicted. I liked the story, and I read it thoroughly and after the first time reading it I thought I understood the story. After going over it in class, I realized I missed a whole bunch of important details. I had read portions and didn’t consider them or read between the lines. I have learned I need to work on this.

While I liked Sammy for standing up for the girls, sort of, he spoke so poorly of them. He called these woman sheep and wondered if they had brains. While standing up to his rude boss was the right idea, quitting his job was a bit impulsive. He was very detail oriented and opinionated; he noticed every feature of the girls and had an opinion about it. I think his character is complicated in that, he wants to stand up for the girls and be their hero but doesn’t know how to think of them respectfully.

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour is a great book so far. I haven't been reading it for very long but it immediately caught my eye with a baby pink, teal, and black cover. It has a drawing of a girl standing on a bed in the middle of the beach. When I saw the book in the library I remembered briefly reading a summary of the book and wanting to read it during the summer; so when I saw it I checked it out without rereading the summary and jumped right in. This book starts with what is happening in real time. The second chapter is a flash back, and it continues to jump back and forth. The book didn't mention the main character's name until around page twenty, but does mention the name of her roommate and the girl who will be visiting her. She mentions everything in her room and her feelings to where I feel like I'm in her mind sharing her thoughts. yearbook

I tell myself that I do not like yearbook. Though when I find myself running around with a camera in my hand trying to capture people's smiles, I remember why I signed up for the class. Granted, I do not like missing practices or always being busy, but when i take a really good picture or see my picture in a yearbook spread I get the best feeling. This feeling of great reward is worth all of the looks I get and being the odd one out. Yearbook is also pretty hard. The class is really laid back all year but as the end comes we get more and more stressed out. The yearbook crew works over all breaks and the grind actually starts in the summer.
